I’ve always been a big fan of Petone. It holds fond memories for me. 40+ years ago, I used to hang out here with my Italian grandparents, Aunties and Uncles on their Friday briscola card night. Back then I didn’t speak Italian, but I just loved the social gatherings.. Look how Petone has blossomed since then. Continue reading
I’ve suddenly gravitated back to Indian cuisine. I used to make Indian curries from scratch years ago, but one day hubby decided he didn’t like Indian, so strangely I stopped eating it too. However halleluyah, he’s seen the light, after trying a curry in Fiji, and now is ok with it again. Roll on a trip to India to do a comparison. Anyway I digress. Curry Heaven has just opened up in Bond Street and it’s already a gold mine. Continue reading
Dillangers Brasserie and Bar, Midland Park, used to be the horrendous Soho Brown and is now the latest hip bar to hit Wellington’s CBD. It’s already going off with a bang. Same owners as Green Man (which is popular but unfortunately not taken my fancy) but this one has. It’s way more classier and a defo 4.5 star qualmark rating, even without a hotel! As Astoria is always busy, it’s a much needed and a good spot for a business breakfast or coffee meeting, lunch, dinner, drinks or nibbles. Their French chairs outside are gorgeous. Continue reading
Set within a white Victorian villa, good ‘ole Boulcott Bistro is still alive and well and is one of Welly’s great dining institutions. The décor is stunning. We both have a soft spot for BSB as it’s always consistent with great food and service, and it’s a five star dining experience without the pricetag. As it’s on the outskirts of the CBD you tend to forget about it, however we visit at least annually and I’d love to visit more in future. Continue reading
Swan Lane in Welly is tucked away nicely in between Cuba and Marion Streets. This area has always been hip and it’s getting hipper. It was a sad adieu to Duke Carvells but a very nice Bonjour to Noble Rot Wine Bar. Even though Noble Rot translates to ” a grey mould deliberately cultivated on grapes in order to perfect wines”, there was no grey mould to be seen but only perfection. Continue reading
This has been my best trip to Hawkes Bay to date, as I got to go to six amazing new cafe/restaurant/bars. I’m combining six blog posts in one and you won’t be disappointed.
As I am located above the Muse Eatery and Bar, formerly known as the 3c bar, I have no excuse to now not have this as my local. This is the creation of the former Muse on Allen., which always had a great rep. Continue reading
Park the car now in Park Road and checkout Park Kitchen. There’s a new hottie in town and it’s not Scarlett Johansson! This is a must stop, located opposite the Roxy in Miramar. Yes I’m back in the ‘burbs and as soon as I walked into this place, I was absolutely blown away by the decor and the fab use of space;they have two main separate dining areas, a retro lounge area and an alfresco area. And checkout the amazing bathrooms! Continue reading
