On a recent Friday night, we were supposed to eat at the Cuba St night market, however I’m not sure how but we ended up at the former ‘Arirang’, now Mrs Kim’s Korean Kitchen on the corner of Ghuznee and Victoria Street but we did. It was the first time that our friends had tried Korean and they loved it. Continue reading

Amazing cocktail bar!
It was so exciting to take my besties to Hanging Ditch for a pre-dinner cocktail before our mini reunion. This place is in the funky Leeds Quarter next to Goldings Free Dive and opposite the WCF (Wellington Chocolate Factory). Continue reading
Fat boy slim!
Will the real Slim Shady please stand up, please stand up! Slim Davey’s Friendly Neighbourhood saloon (a bit of a mouthful but quirky), reminds me of that Eminem song. This pub is next door to and owned by the boys from Ortega Fish Shack and Bar in Marjoribanks St. Mt Victorians are so lucky as this is yet another cool place in their hood with Five Boroughs, the Mt Vic Chippery and Capitol.
Sensational vietnamese food!
Vietnamese Saigon Grill Bar is next to Ombra on Cuba St. How super Cuba Dupa! This place was the former Orsini’s and has had a zillion name changes since then. I think this one will stay. Continue reading
She sells sea-shells on the seashore!
Being able to sit on the balcony of the Seashore Cabaret in Petone on a gorgeous autumnal day was just bliss. Located above the Petone Rowing Club this new cafe belongs to the Maranui cafe family. It’s a gold mine and good fortune for the Petone-ites, Eastbourne-ites, Hutt chicks and Wellywoodians alike.
Caffeine fix!
What an exciting few weeks. My recent discovery on the cafe scene was the Ekor bookshop and cafe. How spesh and quaint is this little place managed by bibliophile Niki Ward! It’s along from Caffe L’affare, and across the road from Moore Wilsons in College St.
Amen to Ramen!
The Ramen Shop in Newtown, is a spinoff business of Hillside Kitchen and Cellar in Thorndon. This concept originated as a pop-up shop around town back in May 2013 and this is now their permanent home. It’s described as a “ramen (everyday Japanese streetfood) joint with a kiwi twist”. It’s extremely clever, unique and it works! Continue reading
Sacre Bleu!
Gordon Blue is what we refer to in jest as Cordon Bleu. Ooh la la my friends, it’s best we don’t jest as this experience is nothing to scoff at. Continue reading
Grand of the Century
Hubby and I got invited to Grand Century in Tory St for a Chinese New Year celebratory dinner with our adopted whanau. This was our first visit for dinner as we’ve eaten here several times for a yum-cha lunch. Continue reading
Popular Poppies
It appeared that everyone had heard of or been to Poppies Vineyard in Martinborough except me. Ok my friend wasn’t having that. She was treating me to my belated birthday lunch treat on a recent Saturday, to help me keep up with the play of course. Continue reading
