To be frank!

The powers of social media eh? Thanks to an instant pic by fellow foodies Wellybrunch, I changed my original Friday lunch date venue to Frank’s on the Terrace. They also have one in Newtown too. I’d been here before three years ago only for a coffee, and remember their lovely cabinet food which they still have; lots of gorgeous muffins/cakes and filled rolls. I don’t recall them having a breakfast/lunch menu, so was so looking forward to trying it out. Continue reading

Goldmine

Having a girlie breakfast catchup in a former sex shop ‘Device’ on Willis St was interesting! I can’t tell you about the before setup but the after transformation is Goldmine. The latest innovation is by the owners of Lamason in Lombard Lane, so their brew coffee is one of their specialities. Continue reading

Lucky Strike- Beer and Brisket

Mention brisket, and my stomach does somersaults. In like Flynn. Hubby and I loved our bbq brisket in Texas last year, so to have Lucky Strike, a unique outdoor setting pop up in Welly, 12-14 Tory Street, behind The Lanes bowling alley, I can’t tell you how excited I was. Continue reading

Le Samourai

Oui Oui, another leetle French place has sprung up in Welly. This time quite unexpectedly down Courtenay Place end of town, under Chow on Tory St; le Samourai. Chow owners continue to build their empire. Their inspiration came from a French film of the same name and they’ve replicated the fitout as per the film as well. Continue reading

Gypseys, tramps and thieves!

Gipsy Kitchen in Jessie Street is the baby sister of Gipsy Kitchen in Strathmore- not spelt gypsy the way we know it. The Strathmore location at night is fab. Their tapas are to die for. The city location is on a way smaller scale but packs in a lot of punch within its tight space. The ecletic décor is divine; from the fabulous bright mural outside which flows nicely into equally bright colours inside. No sign of any gypsies, tramps or thieves today though. Continue reading

Austrian Welly deli

Third visit but first review as the food was always very good, but the service appalling. I had boycotted my local along with other Brooklynites for 2 years because of the rude lady that used to work there. What a difference, now she’s gone. Obviously the menu has since changed. Read on to find out. Continue reading

In need of a Brazilian?!

The former Osteria del Toro is now Welly’s first ever Brazilian Churrascaria. No it has nothing to do with churros! It’s traditional, authentic Gaucho cuisine; Portuguese BBQ. The décor inside is pretty much the same as the former Osteria del Toro, and is still extremely elegant and plush in its surroundings.  Continue reading

Staying alive!

I’m so pleased Tinakori Bistro was salvaged from shutting down. What a survivor as it’s been around for donkeys. We hadn’t been here for donkeys either. The décor hasn’t changed but boy the menu and cuisine has. French is our ultimate fave and especially a treat for my birthday. Continue reading

Brother can you spare a dime?!

A huge fan of Five Boroughs, I was keen to checkout Elie Assaf’s other child, in funky Cuba St; Five and Dime. I attempted a gal catchup here a year ago, however it was a bit too fancy schmancy at the time. We were in the mood for a true brunch menu so we chose Fidels, across the road. Continue reading
