The former Malaysian Satay Kajang has reopened as a new Vietnamese restaurant on Dixon Street; The Old Quarter. What another Vietnamese restaurant in Welly you say but clapping your hands of course, and not complaining. Continue reading
6th visit to Melbourne and this time blogging was my purpose, with a wee spot of shopping and sightseeing thrown in for good measure. My eatathon will be one I won’t forget quickly and has set the scene for future visits.
Dillangers Brasserie and Bar, Midland Park, used to be the horrendous Soho Brown and is now the latest hip bar to hit Wellington’s CBD. It’s already going off with a bang. Same owners as Green Man (which is popular but unfortunately not taken my fancy) but this one has. It’s way more classier and a defo 4.5 star qualmark rating, even without a hotel! As Astoria is always busy, it’s a much needed and a good spot for a business breakfast or coffee meeting, lunch, dinner, drinks or nibbles. Their French chairs outside are gorgeous. Continue reading
Set within a white Victorian villa, good ‘ole Boulcott Bistro is still alive and well and is one of Welly’s great dining institutions. The décor is stunning. We both have a soft spot for BSB as it’s always consistent with great food and service, and it’s a five star dining experience without the pricetag. As it’s on the outskirts of the CBD you tend to forget about it, however we visit at least annually and I’d love to visit more in future. Continue reading
Wellington is so spoiled with its frenzy of foodtrucks popping up everywhere. No sooner do I turn my back and boom a new one arrives in my midst. Outside Moore Wilson Fresh, two foodie trucksters get to showcase their wares on a rotational basis. There is also the permanent Chookwagon located upstairs in the carpark. Since visiting, Meatballers and EatStreet replaced Fat PoBoys and the French Crepe foodtruck. And this week The Greek FoodTruck has joined the food pod party. Plus The Moustache Milk & Cookie Foodtruck in Marion St has just hit Welly, temporarily from Auckland. Fancy a freshly baked bacon choc chip cookie with your gourmet shake or coffee? Apparently us Wellingtonians are more adventurous than the Jaffas, so go on and be a devil!
Lordy. Lordy. You know eating pies is not part of my regime however I make an exception, if given a good recommendation. Thanks to our dear matey Jude, we stopped at the Fairlie Bakehouse for the first time ever and were totally blown away. Continue reading
