Taormina, Sicily – bucket- list for sure!

A quick stop in Messina, en route to Taormina was had. My screenplay opens in this city on the 15th August so I just had to be in alignment with it. Being the Feast of the Assumption, town was closed and quiet but nonetheless, I wore white to pay my respects to the Virgin Mary. Continue reading

Marsala to Trapani, Sicily

We drove from Agrigento for an hour for a quick stop in Marsala. Given Marsala is significant for well Marsala yes but Garibaldi and his redshirts, I just had to visit this place to pay him tribute as an Italian. Marsala also features in my screenplay so it just added to my Sicily research. Continue reading

Modica to Agrigento – Sicilia!

Choosing which places to visit was challenging as of course I wanted to go everywhere.  I can fortunately say I choose well as 9/10 places were fabulous. Sadly we left Ortigia, Siracusa and headed for Modica; famous for chocolate. OMG it was such a beautiful town, inland set on a hill. That day our car thermometer hit 40 degrees! Continue reading

Bella Roma!

This is my 3rd visit to Rome and I’d have to say the best visit as having hubby in tow, just made it that much more special. Being older and not backpacking, and having money to enjoy food, wine and shopping helps, as well as having more of an appreciation for the architecture and beauty. Continue reading

First Emirates experience!

When we fly longhaul to the US or Europe, we’ve generally chosen Air New Zealand, premium economy or business (using our upgrades). However this time we thought we’d have a change up and try Emirates. I got us a great early bird business class special.  It was sensational and exceeded our expectations. Let me tell you why. Coffee and pizza

Raglan Roast Coffee’s mission is to “make coffee, that’s great, fast and affordable” – and boy are they en point! They started with an old coffee machine at the back of a kite surfing shop, 16 years ago. They have matured and now working with the best coffee brewing and grinding equipment, producing amazing tasting coffee. The secret? Roasting daily to ensure their coffee is in primo, fresh condition. They have 8 locations in New Zealand; 3 in Hamilton, 1 in Nelson and 4 in Welly. Continue reading

Best gluten-free pasta ever!

Eleven fifty four, come in please. Your number is up, but in a good way! 1154 Pasteria is the new hip pasta joint in town that was the former Ernesto’s. Another brilliant venture created by the Italian-Kiwi Bresolin brothers, who also own Scopa opposite and Bresolin in Willis Street. Continue reading

Fake news?

Wellington is getting more like Melbourne by the minute. I’m loving the swanky new Press Hall; gourmet food eatery/laneway with rooftop bar on Willis Street. It’s still a WIP so I’m told and am shocked there are still people that walk past who’ve never heard of it or been before. The signage and marketing needs a bit more work.  Continue reading

Matterhorn reincarnated!

After an emotional week, it was great to have a lovely gals dinner out at the new Italian hotspot – Monte Cervino (translates to The Matterhorn).  The name deliberately chosen by the ex owners of Matterhorn. Very clever.  With my online booking in place, we were good to go. I’d only heard fab feedback, and being an Italian passport holder, my expectations were high. Continue reading
