Hot stuff baby tonight!

I was so excited to go out mid-week with hubby and let someone else slave over a hot kitchen. Hot Sauce is a funky, edgy cocktail bar/Asian tapas restaurant, adjacent to the QT hotel (formerly Museum Hotel).  It definitely exceeded my expectations. Continue reading

In need of a Brazilian?!

The former Osteria del Toro is now Welly’s first ever Brazilian Churrascaria. No it has nothing to do with churros! It’s traditional, authentic Gaucho cuisine; Portuguese BBQ. The décor inside is pretty much the same as the former Osteria del Toro, and is still extremely elegant and plush in its surroundings.  Continue reading

Bravo Amano!

This was my second attempt to try out this funky, Italian restaurant in Britomart.  Fortunately we secured a reservation this time. I got there early so I could soak up the ambiance, take some snaps and peruse the menu. Girlfriend got a park right outside in Tyler St. Perfect start. Continue reading

A taste of Japan in Wellington!

Finally I made it to Tokeyo with some gals after work. This place came highly recommended and it did not fail to disappoint. In fact it exceeded our expectations. We were warmly welcomed and as we’d arrived earlier than expected, we decided to have a pre-dinner drink. Continue reading

Vietnam revisited!

First trip to Vietnam, we so loved chaotic Hanoi and our junk boat overnight trip to Halong Bay. This visit I joined hubby’s golf trip to Da Nang. We stayed at the fabulous 5 star Pullman Danang Beach Resort, 15 mins from Danang airport. It’s set amongst lush vegetation and the most stunning white sandy beach. Service and food is fantastic. The buffet breakfast stations are amazing, let alone the various coffees you can order, and you must try their liquid nitrogen icecream and cocktails. I’m still dreaming about their food. New Kid on the block!

Dillangers Brasserie and Bar, Midland Park, used to be the horrendous Soho Brown and is now the latest hip bar to hit Wellington’s CBD. It’s already going off with a bang. Same owners as Green Man (which is popular but unfortunately not taken my fancy) but this one has. It’s way more classier and a defo 4.5 star qualmark rating, even without a hotel! As Astoria is always busy, it’s a much needed and a good spot for a business breakfast or coffee meeting, lunch, dinner, drinks or nibbles.  Their French chairs outside are gorgeous. Bravo Boulcott St Bistro!

Set within a white Victorian villa, good ‘ole Boulcott Bistro is still alive and well and is one of Welly’s great dining institutions. The décor is stunning. We both have a soft spot for BSB as it’s always consistent with great food and service, and it’s a five star dining experience without the pricetag. As it’s on the outskirts of the CBD you tend to forget about it, however we visit at least annually and I’d love to visit more in future. Continue reading

Not just eggs at Egmont!

IMG_0515IMG_0508IMG_0507egmont2IMG_0516egmont1

I discovered Egmont St Eatery (ex carpark) when I took a detour off Dixon St, while running an errand. What a treasure. This is another wee hidden CBD gem. My dental hygienist and I got chatting about this place (fyi, best dental visit ever) and we both raved about it.  We both loved its multi-level, space, design, let alone the food and cocktails.
