Wellington is getting more like Melbourne by the minute. I’m loving the swanky new Press Hall; gourmet food eatery/laneway with rooftop bar on Willis Street. It’s still a WIP so I’m told and am shocked there are still people that walk past who’ve never heard of it or been before. The signage and marketing needs a bit more work. Continue reading
We all loved Kirks, but I also really love its replacement; David Jones. More-so because we beat the Aucklanders to something for a change!. It’s a huge magnet for the city as well. There’s just something international and classy about it, and it exudes great energy. David Jones stores in Aussie are complimented with lovely cafes to match. Ours isn’t quite there yet, but has oodles of potential.
When Pappa Rich first opened in Grey St, opposite Hotel InterContinental, there was a queue to get in. This is always the way in Wellington and although I don’t like to wait, I love the fact that it demonstrates that Wellingtonians are curious foodies. We’re eager to test and support new venues. If you’re a Wellingtonian and you still feel a little cheated with our summer, although it’s making up for it, you won’t be cheated of your riches here. The food is fabulous and affordable. I was so excited to learn that the Beach House & Kiosk, a former cringeworthy café, not far from my Brooklyn hood, had been kissed by a frog and turned into a Princess. All credit of course goes to ex Elements café owners Scott and Nicola Barrett. These guys have a great rep and they’ve struck gold yet again.
6th visit to Melbourne and this time blogging was my purpose, with a wee spot of shopping and sightseeing thrown in for good measure. My eatathon will be one I won’t forget quickly and has set the scene for future visits.
