Winston Churchill is alive in Welly!

While the first international ice hockey game in Wellington, Canada vs USA was delayed, we headed to The Churchill, Northern end of Lambton Quay, to kill some time. This place is another venture linked to the Wellington Hospitality Group. I’ve not heard of anyone that’s been to this gastropub, so Ann, Eileen and I were quite excited to try something new. I can’t even remember what it was called before it was Paris as it’s had quite several name changes. For the oldies out there it used to be The 1860. Now that’s going back a few years. Good Morning Vietnam – Wellington

Thanks to fellow foodie friend Scotty, I learned that the Thai Chefs (opposite Chaffers New World) has recently changed to Good Morning Vietnam. Even though I’m Italian, you know Vietnamese food is right up there on my top fave cuisines to right? It’s so lovely and fresh with delicious flavours and sits well within my dietary requirements. We are just so spoiled for choice in Wellington for Vietnamese as it’s really taken off. Continue reading

In their heyday – brewpub

Welly is now not only the coffee capital of the world but making a name for itself with craft beer. Breweries or brewpubs are just popping up everywhere. I love the fact that even if you’re not a beer drinker, they offer spirits, all types of wine,  bubbles and booch. Today we visited the coolest, funky, bright, hip brewpub on upper Cuba Street; HeyDay beer. Continue reading

Hey Joe, let’s give it a go!

Joe’s Garage is a franchise and was founded in Queenstown’s old Post Office sorting room. and they have 11 locations around NZ. It’s very cool and casual here and you can even bring you dog or the kids! Their purpose is for you to hang, listen to their cool tunes,  eat good food, drink and have a good time. Continue reading

Sourdough Wellington

Being an obsessed foodie, I was delighted to learn about this wee hidden gem in our Left Bank alleyway off Cuba St. When I say hidden, I mean hidden so I’ll set you the challenge and you have fun with it. Continue reading

Best gluten-free pasta ever!

Eleven fifty four, come in please. Your number is up, but in a good way! 1154 Pasteria is the new hip pasta joint in town that was the former Ernesto’s. Another brilliant venture created by the Italian-Kiwi Bresolin brothers, who also own Scopa opposite and Bresolin in Willis Street. Continue reading

Mr Panman bring me a dream!

po

Hola! Popup Panman’s Spanish gourmet takeaways  are located at the Wadestown shops. Such a fantastic concept and kudos goes to Mr Ian Hornblow, well known hospo foodie in Wellington, who works here with his sons. Nothing wrong with a good solid Father and Son business I say. You’ll find them prepping their paella – classic or vege, on Thursdays and Sundays. Continue reading

Italian brunch sort-of

Pandoro [panˈdɔːro] is a traditional Italian sweet yeast bread, most popular around Christmas and New Year. Typically a Veronese product, pandoro is traditionally shaped like a frustum with an eight-pointed star section. Continue reading

Fake news?

Wellington is getting more like Melbourne by the minute. I’m loving the swanky new Press Hall; gourmet food eatery/laneway with rooftop bar on Willis Street. It’s still a WIP so I’m told and am shocked there are still people that walk past who’ve never heard of it or been before. The signage and marketing needs a bit more work.  Continue reading

Vietnamese, Thai or Laos?

Tonight peeps we headed out to the burbs, meeting half way between Upper Hutt and Wellington with friends in Petone. Only a slightly 6 year overdue catchup! K Sing was their restaurant suggestion. We’d never heard of it, so bottle in wine in hand, table booked, we were good to go. Continue reading
