We popped in here to join a friend for a Sunday lunch and were wowed by the Mediterranean Foods in Newtown ‘s makeover. It’s now a deli, restaurant and pizzeria and it’s fantastic with authentic Italian staff.
Service was exceptional from beginning to end and I so enjoyed parlaying in Italiano. Hungry after our walk, we went straight to ordering 2 salads to share; the Caesar and the Panzanella. Hubby ordered the seafood spaghetti which surprised me as he loves risotto, but he’s not a fennel fan. You can start with salami or opt for a sandwich; these did sound but I didn’t want full-on bread. They also offered a fish, chicken and steak main.
Our portions were small and prices are up there. In hindsight we all should have done the bread thing and had a pizza. These looked sensational. They had 16 varieties, categorised into Napolitan ( classic), Rosse ( tomato sauce) or Bianche ( no tomato base). Next time.
They had an extensive drinks list so next time I will partake in my fave Aperol Spritz, as I know it will be authentic given an Italian will be making it! Coffees were good too. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, they have lovely cakes and slices or you can get a gelato or chocolates from around the corner. Tiramisu is a dessert offering at dinner.
I need to come back to the deli also as there was a gluten-free Bacio gelato tub that had my name on it, amongst other delicious provisions. You will love being surrounded by their good food, wine and Italians, and I promise you will forget you are in Wellington!
