On a recent Friday night, we were supposed to eat at the Cuba St night market, however I’m not sure how but we ended up at the former ‘Arirang’, now Mrs Kim’s Korean Kitchen on the corner of Ghuznee and Victoria Street but we did. It was the first time that our friends had tried Korean and they loved it.
It was a gorgeous evening and the light was streaming in. The place is now bright lime green on the outside with new signage but the inside is pretty much the same with a different menu. It was fairly busy with mainly Korean clientele, which is a good sign.
Mrs Kim was definitely busy, solo in the kitchen whilst we perused the menu. It didn’t take us long to order or have served some Korean dumplings, some skewered beef and a delicious seafood Korean pancake for starters. No complaints from the four of us. Very tasty.
Hubby actually got me into Korean food as my first try years ago I wasn’t a fan. He chose his usual, bibimbap; a rice and vege dish which is funny as he’s such a major carnivore . His other go-to is bulgogi. I chose a spicy chicken and vege dish and the others chose a beef and noodle dish. They are served with kimchi and other condiments, and was generous in portion-size. I fortunately then didn’t need to eat my rice, which is perfect paleo.
The colours and taste were just so appetising and appealing. I just love that zingy, numby feeling that’s left in your mouth that lingers for ages.
Service was friendly and prompt with no frills. This is definitely a cheap and cheerful place as mains are all of $14.00ish. They also have a week day lunch special for $11.50 from 11am to 3pm. I might bring the boys from work here.
There is no liquor licence so we chose to go have a beverage at a local rooftop bar to enjoy the gorgeous Welly weather.
