Will the real Slim Shady please stand up, please stand up! Slim Davey’s Friendly Neighbourhood saloon (a bit of a mouthful but quirky), reminds me of that Eminem song. This pub is next door to and owned by the boys from Ortega Fish Shack and Bar in Marjoribanks St. Mt Victorians are so lucky as this is yet another cool place in their hood with Five Boroughs, the Mt Vic Chippery and Capitol.
They have still preserved the beautiful villa look of the former Roxburgh restaurant. It’s quite dark downstairs due to the wood, but it’s a great fit-out. There is a bar, booth seating and groovy lounge area, where upstairs offers a second larger bar with large windows, tables, more light and a small outside area. The decor is funky and service is hip and friendly.
The lunch/brunch menu is quite bizarre and didn’t really capture my enthusiasm. Starters were salted cashews, biltong, olives, oysters, cheeses, fries, pate. Mains were BAE, German sausage, minute steak, fish fillet, flatbread and feta. We settled on the pork belly and corned beef. It was very nice but big on price more-so than portion-size. The two desserts were lemon posset or a gourmet icecream sundae. There is a kid’s menu also which Jamie Oliver would frown upon.
I will definitely come back with the girls to have a drink and/or a snack another time. Hubby enjoyed his craft beer and the drinks list is mighty impressive with reasonable prices.
