I’m nearing the end of all my US posts, and they all so deserve their own page. Still some to go. This one is a goodie. What a delightful find in the Marigny District, New Orleans. Thanks to hubby. It was right at the end at 640 Frenchman street and was a lovely, spacious brick place with a dark, European interior.
We just missed Happy Hour (doh!) but settled on the special daily cocktail, as featured, which was absolutely delicious. It was a concoction of vodka, cucumber, mint and strawberry. They also had a wide range of European and California red and white wines, and the local Abita and NOLA draft beers.
We decided to go back to our ‘courting’ days and share some plates tonight. We tried the strawberry, candied walnut, blue cheese salad, the truffle fries with parmesan, and the buttermilk chicken with sweet potato waffle and braised collard greens. Yummo.
The menu was fantastic and offered traditional New Orleans cuisine, obviously with its French and seafood specialities. For example they offered a soup, foie gras, crawfish fritters, fried green tomatoes, a beet and goat cheese or caesar salad, brussel sprouts and bacon, seafood risotto, ribeye, and shrimp and grits. We skipped the famous bread pudding and beignets for dessert, as had no room. http://www.marignybrasserie.com
We finished the night by going to a few of the local bars/clubs nearby. “The Spotted Cat” was my favourite however you also get the most amazing, ad hoc groups of performers on the corner of the street. It’s cheap entertainment, as all it costs is a tip and you just soak up the talent. I prefer Frenchman Street to Bourbon Street, but Laffites on Bourbon Street, the oldest bar in New Orleans, was awesome and is an absolute must. We could have stayed there all night!
I’m coming back New Orleans. I’m also going to sign up for a cooking class at the New Orleans School of Cooking at the Louisiana General Store. http://www.neworleansSchoolofCooking.com
Totally inspired me to make a vodka, strawberry, cucumber mint cocktail … Will have to wait until tonight after work 😉
Excellent. Inspiring is my key goal. I love your blog by the way and now am following you. Thanks 🙂
